About The Red Rock Area
Our communities in the Red Rock Area provide a special charm.
The people and history that has shaped this area provide a rich tapestry of experiences and memories that will be remembered long after you leave. Our low crime rate and rural lifestyle provide visitors from the city a fun family getaway.
Here, life is centered on going to the lake on sunny weekend days, sipping a warm coffee with friends as the sun rises and enjoying community activities at night. It isn't about neon and glitz…life in the Red Rock Area is about community and family. Our towns are built around a central square where you will find shopping, restaurants and services.
More than 33,000 people make their home in Marion County, Iowa. From 2000 to 2010, our population grew by 3.92%. We boast one of the highest average wage rates of any rural county in Iowa and have over 40% of our workforce employed in manufacturing. We have more than 2,600 people each day who come from other counties to work in Marion County. Our second largest industry is tourism, with over $38 million spent in the county each year by visitors. We have one insituttion for higher education: Central College.
