Visitors to Lake Red Rock will have a new segment of trail to explore as part of the new Cordova Center on the Rock project.  Construction has already been completed on a 280-foot bridge for the segment 4b expansion of the Volksweg Trail.  The bridge construction cost is $630,000 and is being funded through the federal Des Moines River Greenbelt program.  Plans are to extend the Volksweg Trail five miles from the Fifield Recreation Area through Cordova Park to State Highway 14.  This trail expansion is part of a new destination planned for the Cordova Park area that will include 7 components.  Another component of the project will be to build 7 additional cabins at Cordova Park.  The 7 cabins that already exist at Cordova Park are occupied year round.
