Red Rock Area hosts Bikers and Balloons weekend:

The Pella Convention & Visitors Bureau, Red Rock Lake Area and Knoxville Chamber are working hard to promote two exciting events for the July 15th-16th weekend. The 2011 Harley Owners Group State Rally as well as the 2011 Red Rock Balloon Fest will entertain visitors and residents alike in one exciting weekend.

“This ain’t no tip-toe throughout the tulips”! More than 400 bikers are expected to roll into Pella for the State Harley Owners Rally based in Pella’s Molengracht Plaza area while 22 hot air balloons, pilots and their crews will float over the Red Rock Lake Area coloring the sky with their beauty and grace from their launch site at the Red Rock Visitors Center on the south side of Red Rock Dam.

After obtaining approval from Pella’s City Council, the Pella Convention & Visitors Bureau created a formal presentation for the State HOG Rally Board which local rally coordinators, Bob Ruthven and Fred Kreykes presented. Pella was awarded the event bid and soon the HOGS will be seen at all corners of our community through poker runs, parades and simply parked for show downtown.

Balloons join the bikers as the 1st Annual Red Rock Balloon Fest takes place the same weekend at the Red Rock Visitors Center. 22 Balloons and pilots, including the Harley Davidson Balloon, will launch at 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. both Friday and Saturday evenings, July 15th and 16th with a spectacular “Night Glow” tethered event Saturday at 8:30 p.m. The Red Rock Lake Association, Knoxville Chamber of Commerce, Pella Convention & Visitors Bureau and organizers; Kevin Mart and Matt Kissinger have teamed up to coordinate the newest event for the lake area. A final 6:00 a.m. flight is planned for Sunday morning the 17th.
