In The News

Red Rock Arts Alliance and Knoxville Noon Kiwanis are very pleased to announce that acapella singing sensations Street Corner Symphony will be having a concert in Knoxville on August 20.  The concert will start at 7pm and be held in the auditorium of Celebrate Community Church, 1005 North Lincoln Street, Knoxville, Iowa.  McKay Financial Services has signed on as the title sponsor for the event.

The community of Knoxville is especially excited to welcome Street Corner Symphony since member Jon McLemore is a former resident and member of the Knoxville Noon Kiwanis and Red Rock Arts Alliance.  “We knew we had to take this opportunity to bring a nationally known act to Knoxville since we had such a great connection with Jon when we lived here,” says Jamie Hughes, of Knoxville Noon Kiwanis, who is orchestrating the visit.  “He was integral in getting our talent show fundraiser off the ground and this is an excellent opportunity to inspire our young people and the community as a whole with the success of the group.”

The members of Street Corner Symphony are from all over the Southeast US and are proud to call Nashville, TN their home base.  The group was formed in May of 2010 for the sole purpose of winning the Sing Off.  SCS brings a unique laid back southern soul to the competition, demonstrating notable influences from artists like Take 6 and Alison Krauss.  While SCS offers a diverse repertoire, the group has a rich heritage in gospel music.  They ended up with a second place finish which allowed them a lot of freedom to pursue new projects after the conclusion of the show.  In the winter of 2011, they toured with Ben Folds.  More information on the group and their tour schedule can be found at www.streetcornersymphony.org.

Tickets will be available through Midwestix at www.midwestix.com starting April 30th for $20 per ticket plus processing fees.  A special pre-sale event will be held for local fans on April 29th from 4-8pm at Peace Tree Brewing Company, 107 W. Main Street.  The pre-sale tickets are also $20 and limited to the first 150 sold and will have any additional processing fees.  If available, tickets at the door will be $25.

Knoxville Noon Kiwanis focuses on helping the children of the world and does many local projects that support this mission.  In 2010 they brought Missoula Children’s Theater to Knoxville and held a talent show, Knoxville’s Got Talent, to raise funds for the adventure.  The group enjoys providing opportunities for local youth to be inspired to reach for their dreams and the upcoming visit from Street Corner Symphony fits right within that mission.

RRAA works enrich our community and create an environment that encourages artistic potential, organize and promote art events with a goal of economic stability for artists and economic development for the community in general.  Most recently they finished a two year residence program through Arts Midwest.  More information can be found at www.redrockartsalliance.org.
