Weather Forecast & Entry List Both Look Great
for this Weekend’s Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals
09-27-2011
The weather forecast for Knoxville, Iowa, looks pristine for this weekend’s eighth annual Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals, presented by Casey’s General Stores. And so does the current entry list. Although popular drivers Tony Stewart and Josh Richards will both be off NASCAR stock car racing this weekend, the pre-entry list includes all past champions: Billy Moyer (2010), Scott Bloomquist (2005, ‘09), Tim McCreadie (2008), Brady Smith (2007), Brian Shirley (2006), Brian Birkhofer (2004) and over 70 others.
The weather forecast calls for less than 10 percent chance of rain for September 29, 30 and October 1, with high temperatures in the 60s and 70s.
Other favorites on the pre-entry list include: Jimmy Owens of Tennessee, Jack Sullivan of Arkansas, John Anderson of Nebraska, John Duty of Oregon, Eddie Kirchoff of Wyoming, Kelly Boen of Colorado, Matt Miller of Ohio, Chad Chenoweth of South Dakota, Ken Schrader of Missouri, Jimmy Mars of Wisconsin, Junior Coover of Nebraska, Shannon Babb of Illinois, Don O’Neal of Indiana, Steve Francis of Kentucky, Dale McDowell of Georgia, Austin Hubbard of Delaware, Chad Simpson of Iowa, Rick Eckert of Pennsylvania, Earl Pearson, Jr., of Florida, Ray Cook of North Carolina, Jeep Van Wormer of Michigan, “Bub” McCool of Mississippi, Chris Wall of Louisiana and Nick Kramer of Minnesota.
According to Ralph “Cappy” Capitani, Knoxville’s retiring Director of Racing, “Gang, you can add Will Vaught, Dan Schlieper, Chris Simpson, Billy Moyer, Jr., Brad Neat, Steve Casebolt, Andy Eckrich, John Blankenship, Eric Wells, Scott James, Jared Landers, Frank Heckenast, Jr., and Darrell Lanigan to the list of favorites. And with ‘Smoke’ and Josh off racing with NASCAR this coming weekend, I don’t know who Mark Richards will put in his ultra-fast Rocket chassis machines. We definitely have more ‘top guns’ than we have starting spots in the 100-lap finale, so unfortunately some usual A-Main drivers will be loading up early on Saturday.”
